But why now? AT&T and GTE have talked before and GTE has always maintained its independance. Does the WCOM attempt change any of that? GTE doesn't need AT&T to grow. They are doing fine as they are and they have a rock solid business established. They have 25% of Qwest capacity tied up which gives them as much capability (or more) than AT&T. Why do they need AT&T?
