My wife returned to college in her forties and in one of her classes there was a woman in her mid-seventies that was working toward her bachelor’s degree. This woman had married young, raised a family, and after being widowed, decided to go to college and get her degree. She told me how many of the young students in the class thought it was just ridiculous that a person in their seventies would return to school since she wasn’t going to be around that long. She was simply mortified that younger students could not understand an older person working to achieve a goal.
