Aside from your joining the National Guard in order to avoid war, which was a faulty strategy (The Idaho National Guard got shot up pretty bad), I admire your story. It's not unlike mine, in that I never stop reading. If there is nothing else, I will read the label on the toilet paper wrapper.

I got my love of reading from Louis L'Amour, starting in the sixth grade when I first read one of his novels. Previously, I had read Edgar Rice Burroughs' Tarzan of the Apes and some other adult novels, but L'Amour's characters without exception craved reading and books like I do. His character, Ryan Tyler, in that first book (To Tame A Land) read Plutarch and Blackstone, so I did too.

I have many of the great books in my library, and I hope someday to get through all of them. One at a time.
