Koan: I find that comment amazing. Understand I am a blue eyed, blond haired German. But the town I gew up in is about 75% African American. I never had any problems because everyone knew I did not have a racist bone in my body.

In fact my mother and I turned our backs on our family, most of whom lived in Oklahoma because they were racists.

Do you have any idea what it is like to be a second class citizen? Everyone suffers from insecurity anyway, and to be told you are sub human somehow is devestating to the ego.

Forget the economic ineqities, which are terrible, what about the psychological impact. You can see how devastated the African American culture is if you open your eyes.

ALL of my African Amerian friends have told me over the years that racism is so horrible they doubt a white person could handle it.

I put that comment in the same category of thinking that says gays (I am straight, but it doesnt matter) are fine with civil unions rather than marriage.

First that is not true. Secondly, what are gays? People from another planet. Why would a gay person not want to marry as much as a straight person?

What if one told a straight person they could only have a civil marriage.

See, it makes no sense? And it is cruel.
