Our frame of reference is so different it might not be possible to communicate.

You're quite correct about the lousy effect of racial contempt on a minority that suffered a history of repression. Compassion and sympathy is a small start, but its substitution for intelligent policy has been disastrous.

In '56 four blacks were transferred to my previously lily white high school. Many or most parents were horrified, but my peers shrugged it off. Us gray-meat kids generally felt that was the beginning of the end of something we recognized as having been a rotten deal.

The effects of interim policies enacted in the name of compassion - busing, quotas, preferential treatment, welfare, etc. - have had disastrous consequences. I am appalled at what's been done to folks who deserved better.

Do you understand Clarence Thomas' positions? Are you familiar with Sowell's writings on this subject?
