Once in a while someone will ask me "why can't I just prepare the documents myself?" in a challenging tone, my answer is always "feel free to do so," basically you pay for the convenience of not having to do it yourself ... same as changing your own oil or going to jiffy lube. Really what you are paying the lawyer for is to answer your questions, the docs take very little time to draw up as it is mostly a matter of changing names.
