Seems like a perfectly reasonable national development policy, having the PLA look for minerals. They should also has access to aircraft, instruments, manpower and computers to process lots of data.

I expect a serious effort to find ore bodies and expand production will bring much more gold to market.

More supply, which might affect the long term gold price.

The next question - Is it possible to hire the group to do exploration in other countries ?

Now there's a bad example - (or a strawman argument)

>>>"implement political pluralism ala Taiwan province"<<<

What if you get a Chen Shui-ban, who hires people to shoot at him to get the sympathy vote ? What if somebody like a certain 'Texan' gets elected ?

Just think, with a billion people, China will never run out of idiots ;-)
