There are so many reasons that families need nursing homes. We have friends who can afford it, but the wife is very frail, been ill for several years, husband now has dementia, if not alzeheimers, one daughter just died this spring of a terrible illness (she was mid 40's leaving a husband and 2 small children), and the other offspring has a very harsh case of OCD. There is no other family left. Sad Sad Sad case. And I'm sure they aren't unique.
