The real racket is being practiced by hotels. If you book online, even at the chain's own website, they will not let you cancel regardless of advance notice. They will either bill your credit card for one night or, in many cases, they will have charged your credit card for one night the moment you placed the reservation.

It's the play the float game at the expense of consumers.

I haven't booked an airline reservation lately, but I suspect the airlines are doing the same thing.

Too bad Congress doesn't look into these kinds of abuses. Might be a lot more fruitful than advancing unhelpful resolutions.
