Pat; Don't know if you saw this, posted while you were gone.

Data Communications Magazine

data.com

"Right now, only one PTT, Singapore Telecom Ltd. (Singapore), has taken the plunge on wide-scale commercial deployment of ADSL. It's already installed ADSL access multiplexers in 27 telephone exchanges, making the service available to 60 percent of Singapore's population. Full coverage is planned by the end of the year."

Telechoice shows Alcatel, Fujitsu as vendors and Westell & Amati as vendors used. Telechoice data from 1996. Wonder if this is one of the 3, haven't heard it mentioned as a possibility.

Article also has some interesting info about Hongkong VOD/VDSL.

"Hongkong Telecom Ltd...is running fiber into basements of high rises and using VDSL to distribute services within buildings. Customers will need set-top boxes for TVs and VDSL modems for PCs. More than 9,000 buildings already have been wired and a video-on-demand service is expected to go live before December."

When I first read it I immediately thought NEC/AMATI VDSL (possibly
Orkit). Steve Green provided a link between NEC/HTK in a C-CUBE
Microsystems PR for the set top boxes. "NEC Corporation has selected C-Cube's CL9100 MPEG-2 digital video set-top decoder and CL9110 transport demultiplexer as the complete digital video solution for NEC's new digital set-top box. NEC's receiver will be used by Hong Kong Telecom IMS Ltd."
I think its a good bet for Amati/NEC VDSL.

PS: Nice headline
"AMATI COMMUNICATIONS SUPPLIES PROVEN ADSL/DMT
TECHNOLOGY
FOR FIRST FREE ADVERTISER-SUPPORTED VIDEO ON DEMAND
SERVICE INSTALLATION
Wonder if this has anything to do w/ALA/JPC <G>
