Seems to me that you are saying that an investor can do fine as a long term buy and holder. Brinker has only made two major calls on the market is about the last fifteen years. Sell 60% in January 2000 and return to fully invested in March 2003. Since you didn't sell in 2000 it would be hard to find much in the way of cash reserves to invest in March 2003. It looks to me like you followed John Bogles advice and appear to be happy with the results.
