What is really galling CL is that now all the people we fought so hard against to get the PF are now claiming it was their idea-lol.

In order to get the permanent fund legislation through the legislature (we needed republican votes) in the 70's, we (young liberal idealistic democrats), to put it plainly, had to pay off the Republican's who were in the pockets of the oil companies (somethings never change-lol), by allowing an "ELF tax" which reduced the oil companies taxes by billions, to be put in place.

Then later when we had the Valdez oil spill, public opinion turned just enough against the oil companies, that the liberal dems (again fighting the conservative republicans) had a shot of doing away with the tax giveaway to the oil companies.

I am told our conservatives and liberals are different from yours. Our liberals and conservatives are liberal and conservative-lol.

It was a movie making drama. We were within one vote of getting the ELF payola to the oil companies reversed, but one dem who the oil companies thought they had in their pocket (Senator Mike symanski), married to the female republican leader fo the senate, literally fell on his sword.

He came down to the floor and the republican's were asking him: "are you Ok", he said yes. Then he double crossed them and voted to repeal the ELF tax and we got rid of it by one vote-lol.

But he then had to not run for reelection and was political toast.

Brave man!
