re: Either that's a ridiculous statement, or its one that reflects a very narrow definition of middle class. Most families of 6 with a $60k income would consider themselves middle class. Maybe in a high cost area they would think "lower middle", but in most of the country they would even add the "lower". Where do you live, Cheapsville, USA? Do you have any idea what it costs to live in this country? In order to be middle class you have to be able to live a middle class lifestyle, and that takes discretionary dollars.
