LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- Biometrics may be the next big thing in information technology. At least, that's what Bill Gates thinks.

Gates told an audience here at the Gartner Group Inc.'s ITxpo that biometrics technologies -- those that use human characteristics such as fingerprint, voice and face recognition -- will be the most important IT innovations of the next several years. This week, several companies are showing off products at the ITxpo show that will help people and their PCs interact more closely.
