Mario, you can get the canadian warrants you want in a u.s. ameritrade account. it is a pain, but you can do it. i have such an account, and i very recently bought both the yri-wtc warrants, which are newly listed with no pink sheet equivalent, and the DNR warrants, which are even less liquid. :)
each time, i had to call to make the buy, and i had to stay on the phone fifteen minutes, mostly on hold while they set the damn thing up for trading with the trading room.
it helps to have the cusip handy, to say you have done this before and you know it can be done, and to be insistent.
they sometimes say 'sorry, you can't trade that.' or 'sorry, we have no symbol for that, it doesn't exist in our system.'
I politely but firmly tell them to please go check with the trading room and get me a bid and ask. they do not like bothering with orders like this, because it slows them down. they have to call the trading room, get those guys to set up a symbol, get the current bid-ask, convert to u.s. dollars, and then 'thank you for holding.'
not ideal, but it works. i haven't had to ask to speak to a supervisor yet, and i own what i want in my u.s. account.
Michael
p.s. the yamana yri-wtc is definitely worth considering, since it has a two year plus shelf life, is in-the-money, and has a modest premium. the DNR is admittedly more of a crap shoot. |
