Ken -

My experience was very different. I had two surgeries, eight weeks apart. The incision ran from my pubic bone straight up past the navel. About 8 inches.

I awoke from the first surgery screaming. I was in more pain than I have ever known in my life, and I've had some very painful experiences. I begged the recovery room nurse for some pain medication, and she said, "You're already on it."

I said, "Whatever it is, it's not enough!"

It seemed like it took about thirty minutes of screaming and pleading to get them to find the anesthesiologist and have him change the prescription from morphine to Dilaudid.

I was hitting the button frequently for the first few days, and they had to increase the dosage after the first day, because they realized that I was just sitting there counting the minutes between doses, unable to sleep because of the pain. (The system only allows you to get a dose every 10 minutes. Pressing the button before you're allowed to have the next dose has no effect.)

The second surgery wasn't as bad, as they had me on Dilaudid from the beginning.
