koan, first understand that I'm not questioning your intelligence. If I had interest in mining stocks I'd likely defer to your judgment.

I wish I knew how to say this so it wouldn't come across as an insult, but your bureaucratic experience leaves me singularly unimpressed. I was briefly a government flunkie in the '60's and left with a bad taste. There are certain functions government has to perform, but in general it's a wasteful and phony make-work program.

My intended point about Joyce, Camus, et al, was that while they may have their place in the life of the mind, they contributed little to and may have detracted from the specific study of economics.

Marx probably had a lot of horsepower 'twixt his ears, yet reached silly and disastrous conclusions. He's still widely respected in a lot of academia, part of which seems separated from the real world.

Oeconomicus covered Galbraith quite adequately. Keynesian economics have and are being abandoned because they produced unpleasant results.

And how dare you imply that I'm an intellectual! Clearly not. I have, however, done a bit of reading over the past sixty years. My interests lead me to focus specifically on economics, then to the thinkers who exerted the most beneficial influence.

OK, maybe you speak Latin while I use pidgin Swahili. My impression is that you didn't get or chose to avoid the points I've tried to make. Dunno, maybe I do the same to you. If so, that's unintentional.
