FXE is Rydex euro ETF available to any brokerage account
FXY is yen

IB will let you purchase and hold a wide variety of currencies as cash (no levering) - i've done it with the euro quite a bit. very competitive spreads, and they pay a very competitive interest rate, much better return than what you get with the above Rydex ETFs (after their overhead fees). but i have also used the ETFs in my schwab account.

FYI, I've been with IB for 6 years now and they have been impeccable... however they say that cash in brokerage accounts is insured by Lloyds of London up to maybe half a million or something like that... but if the big kahuna strikes i don't know how safe that cash actually is.
