"What i find stupid and unacceptable is that israel with all its cleverness and intellegence let this problem blow up into what it is today......"

a bit too clever perhaps in failing to recognize the moral implications of palestian diaspora. They saw what was happening worked to short term advantage in war and turned a blind eye. Jews are only human you know. Dont expect too much from us--you wont get it. But back to your point. There was no peace treaty between victim and vanquished in 47 war. There was no one to negotiate with so even the most liberal of israelis had their hands tied. No peace, no justice to reverse a famous left wing slogan. And thats the core of the problem today. Where peace was implemented land was returned (egypt) or relations were normalized (jordan) but neither of these countries wanted their piece of palestine back, did they? We can focus on the injustices of 47 as you do but that gets us nowhere--the blame game never does. Positions have hardened but both sides need to accept the existance of the other. Israel exists and so does the WB and Gaza. What is the best solution for the people who live there? Chris Parsons says send all the israelis to the falklands. I say send the palestinians. One absurdity deserves another. But really the facts on the ground today determine whats possible and what is not. Can hardliners like nadine and sarman ever make peace?
