I made some phone calls to get some $$$ numbers.
Method "A"
H-pylori kits from Quidel.(thru disribution).
Suggested list price.
10 pack/$13 per test. 30 pack/$12.50 per test.
Time to do test (my guess) 30 secs.
Results in 10 minutes.
Patient makes one trip to doc, one trip to pharmacy.
2 1/2 lost work hours. Cured within 12 to 14 days of visit to doc.
Doc could charge (my guess) $50 for the test in addition to the
consultation fee. $27 profit for the test, very nice.
The doc nor the assistant has to spend 10 minutes with the patient
while waiting for the result. Patient does not have to worry.

Method B
Called a test lab.
$104 per test.
Results 3 to 5 days after receiving sample.
Doc has to fill out paperwork, to request the test.( About the same
time as writing the prescription.)
Patient has to make two trips to Doc, two trips to either a pharmacy
or store (Motrin). No profit for the Doc, unless there is some kind
of arrangement with lab. Patient cured about 3 weeks after first visit
to the doctor, 5 hours lost work. Five days of anxiety.

I talked to P&G. Asked them how things are going. Their h-pylori treatment was third to market. Now in second place.

Talked to Quidel. Low volume products now in Mexico.
