Yes Panther > Tiger was a bigger change.

But I just think Apple is being so SO smart about this.

I totally subscribe to the adage "if it ain't broke don't fix it."

Man O man I wish more geeky coders and designers "got" this. Too too many upgrades are down grades. Vista is a DOWNGRADE supreme.

Apple is just fine tuning an already excellent system and adding or changing ONLY what makes sense. They are taking the best system and astonishingly making it BESTER!

Contrast that to Macromedia's numerous boneheaded changes to Flash or Microsoft's radical and flashy but useless or negative gain changes. Firefox 2 is worse than 1.5. Stupid. All those flashy changes and interface goodies just get in the way of productivity especially on an upgrade.

I expect to go from Panther to Leopard without skipping a beat, and I also expect it to become gradually more productive as I learn the numerous tweaks.

Seems to me (a grouch with a design degree) that Apple is absolutely the best at this kind of thing. They understand the value of simplicity and minimalism.

Adobe is pretty good but not as good as Apple.
