Jackson Hts. brokers held in $1.3M mortgage fraud By Jeremy Walsh 10/25/2007 Two employees of a Jackson Heights mortgage company were arrested and charged last week in connection with a $1.3 million identity theft scheme, the Queens district attorney said.
Jacob Milton, 41, and Shamsun Nira, 37, both of Port Washington, L.I., were charged variously with grand larceny, attempted grand larceny, criminal possession of a forged instrument, identity theft, falsifying business records, fraud, criminal impersonation and unlawful possession of personal identification information, the DA said. The suspects were arraigned Oct. 16 before Queens Criminal Court Judge Ira Margulis. They were scheduled to return to court Oct. 30. If found guilty, Milton faces a maximum of 25 years and Nira seven years, the DA said.
Milton, also known as Sabbirul Talukder and Mohammed Saber, was the manager of the Jackson Heights branch of Griffin Mortgage Co., located at 72-32 Broadway. Prosecutors contend Milton and Nira used their position at the mortgage company to acquire personal information from clients that they later used to take out fraudulent mortgages and credit cards, according to the criminal complaint.... timesledger.com |
