All was looking well for the first 8 hours or so for me as well. My PowerBook G4 which survived the betas, isn't faring so well with the final release: I currently have an unbootable brick (can't even boot from an alternate device right now) and an open case with Apple.
I reported on a different problem with iPod classic firmware version 1.0.2, which is still being offered by iTunes and probably biting more and more people daily. This firmware should have been pulled by Apple, but to save face, they're probably letting it out for the benefits and fixing the problems later.

Unfortunately, the current early rumors and complaints about Leopard look to be along the same lines. Any minor problems can be worked around, but both have the potential to kill off a good percentage of systems and make them totally dysfunctional without bringing them in for repair. This is not only terribly inconvenient for the customer, and hurts Apple's reputation, but it's also very expensive to repair. I've been expecting Apple to be ahead of the problems, but with all the top resources devoted to iPhone lately, the other products have suffered, and it's showing. It's time for a pause at Apple to catch it's breath and restore the broken pieces before making their next big move. They've got many balls in the air and either need to bring in some big help or bring some down in a controlled manner before more and more fall. |
