Here is what you Albertians need to be careful of:

Front page of the Oct 26 Juneau Empire: VECO (VECO was a pipeline maintenance company) official admits bribing Ben Stevens. Rick Smith, former VECO vice president and Bill Allen the primary VECO lobbyist of the oil companies, have admitted bribing about 6/8 members of the legislature and US Senator Ted Stevens, and Rep Don Young and Stevens kid, Ben stevens who was Republican senate president.

20 (19 republicans and 1 democrat) of the 60 legislators have now either been convicted of taking bribs, are under indictment, or under investigation, or have taken over $10,000 in campaign contributions. Fully 1/3 of the legislature. That is why they are holding a special session to considier new oil taxes as there was so much corruption last year when considering oil taxes.

Does anyone really think the oil companies didn't know VECO was bribing legislators? So that is what you Albertians are dealing with. I heard you folks voted to raise taxes. Good for you.

Many of our legislators are still unabashedly protecting the oil companies.
