Don't forget the Microsoft-killer aspect of the gPhone, either. Google would love to diminish the influence of its chief rival.

Open source code, cheap Office-like apps, mobile devices with friendly interfaces, service-oriented backend...all the things MS either doesn't do, or doesn't do well.

Office is more a laptop application than a handheld. I can't imagine how I'd work on documents or spreadsheets on a phone, even one as large as an iPhone.

Most people today may view office type documents on their phone as a stopgap, but I think were some time away from actually being productive (i.e. creating multipage documents).

It does bring an interesting question, which is what's to stop people from using laptops on these "free" data airwaves?
