I agree. It might make some sense, if your wealthy and its a one time thing when a young cat was poisoned with anti-freeze or something like that. Still traumatic and very expensive, but it ends in a few days or a week or so and the cat can have years left to live, so if the cost is not a problem I could see doing it (but the cost would be a problem for many)

But with chronic renal failure it doesn't make sense. The cat would have to go through the procedures for the rest of its life. Then add in complications like possible infection, and it wouldn't be much of a life for the cat.
