Computer stocks seem to be in a holding pattern awaiting earnings. Everyone who wants to be in have already established their positions.
When the majors confirm continuing rapid earnings growth in this sector, they will start moving again IMO.

MMs love these stocks because that is where the growth is.
When Greenspan finally panics and raises rates, these stocks will probably shake it off as higher rates tend to increase the premimum on growth.

That said, Compaq's unit numbers should explode but margins may be down significantly. So there are some risks.

Have you noticed the momentum in telecom equipment sector? Even when MOTs report was ugly.
