Top cat already answered for me. Higher prices for produce if thats the market result.

I would add that the prices might not be as much higher as you think. Fruits and vegetables can be grown in other places, they are only grown on a vast scale in the San Joaquin Valley because of the subsidized water.

First of all, the land in the Valley is very fertile. Secondly, in the southern portion, the climate is nearly semi tropical which allows for two crops per year.....one crop per year is more typical of the growing regions of the US. In addition, there are crops grown in the Valley that can't be grown anywhere else in the US. Thirdly, in dollar amounts, roughly 1/4 of the US's agricultural production comes from the Valley. Several of its products including its wines are world reknown and provide major export items for the US. You talk about dislocations when it comes to oil; the dislocations that would result from 'shutting down' the SJ Valley would be nearly as problematical for the US esp. now when we are up to our eyeballs in debt and in trade deficits. .

Don't subsidize the water and maybe some are still grown there but with the water used much more efficiently, and other vegetables are grown in places where water isn't so expensive. (Water in the San Joaquin Valley is expensive, its just that the users of the water don't pay more than a fraction of its price)

Remember Tim, there are downsides to capitalism and the free marketplace. Some things are not dictated simply by the flow and exchange of dollars.
