Corgenix designs test kits for deadly diseases
The Denver Business Journal

October 26, 2007

A small Broomfield-based company -- currently trading for less than 50 cents a share -- hopes that test kits that can detect killer viruses such as Ebola and Lassa Fever will lift it out of the over-the-counter bulletin board and into the American Stock Exchange.

For three years, Corgenix Medical Corp. has worked with researchers from Tulane University, the U.S. Army and two other biotech companies to develop diagnostic test kits that will help detect an outbreak of deadly diseases without the benefit of a sophisticated clinical laboratory.

Developed under a $3.8 million grant from the National Institutes of Health, the kits should be available to health care workers and government officials next year.

Doug Simpson, president and CEO of Corgenix, said the product, which is being tested in parts of Africa and by the U.S. military, potentially could prevent the spread of disease and help Homeland Security officials thwart bioterrorism attacks.
