Ed --

I guess my first question is how far along is the technology? After that, I'd ask what tests have been done. What are deployment plans? Who besides Nortel and Norweb are testing it? What line codes or standards are involved? Is there an interoperability issue? What are real cost comparisons, not just what's claimed? What's the likely customer response?

If I had to choose between getting data from my phone company, my cable company, and my power company, PacBell's a shoo-in. When the smoke settles, price will not be the differential --- they'll all be comparable --- service will.

At any rate, until I see mass trials and mass industry acceptance of data over power lines, I'll hold off worrying.

What's your take?

Pat
