This sort of explains the downstream effect, from the article:

But power plants in Florida and Alabama depend on healthy flows in the rivers, as do farms, commercial fisheries, industrial users and municipalities. The corps also is required to release adequate flows to ensure habitats for several species of mussels and sturgeon that are protected under the Endangered Species Act.

FL is saying the oyster crop, and the people that harvest the oysters, will be fuked for years, if not forever.


Not to diminish the oyster crop but I think when weighed against the needs of 5 million people, it will lose out. Again, I am amazed that a modern city in America, one as important as Atlanta, would allow itself to be backed into such a corner. The approaching T. Storm may end up being its salvation.
