Indian/US Nuclear Deal on the ropes.

If you have been following the Indian Buzz then you are aware that the Nuclear deal with India is floundering as Indian politics makes it an internal issue. Here is an example of the kind of political chatter that is going on.

One of the markets that TP has been looking at is India. It will be difficult to expand into that market without the Nuclear Treaty in place.

Hoshiarpur, Oct 29: India should explore its own alternative sources to generate power and should not rely on the Indo-US civil nuclear deal, CITU Secretary and former MP Dipankar Mukherjee said here today.

"The US-Indo nuclear deal is not required for India. The country should explore its own sources to further raise the generation of power through hydel and thermal plants. The power generation cost through such plants is cheaper than nuclear power generation," he told reporters here.

"The Left parties will not allow finalisation of the deal at the cost of country's sovereignty," the Marxists' trade wing leader said.

Pointing out that nuclear power is very expensive, he said that with the setting up of nuclear plants, India would have to depend on other countries for uranium whose availability is three percent in the country.

He emphasised on the need for power generation through thorium which is available in plenty in the country.

"By providing uranium to India on its own terms, America is trying to make its base in the country, which will not be allowed," Mukherjee said.

"Leftists would not allow privatisation of uranium and thorium in the country at any cost," he added.
