this has always been the case. A few of my friends with excellent educations and masters degrees worked for almost nothing back in 60's as social workers. I expect the only thing they got was decent benefits, retirement package, not taxable in ma. cola on pension and no idea how there pay may have kept up with inflation throughout the years. I also found many kids in the area on full scholarships took to gov social programs and remained in the area. The only real financial assets they accumulated over the years was the house they lived in. those small cottages are worth 3/4 of a million in locations throughout the boston area. An area now where young kids cannot longer afford to buy and live.
