Lots of trouble was brewing during his term The Shah of Iran was ill, and there was going to be a power struggle there anyway. At least Carter didn't sell them weapons. His South American policy was excellent. If Reagan hadn't started financing all the insurgencies in Nicaragua, Columbia, and Brasil the U.S. would probably still have a good reputation there instead of being the scapegoat for Hugo Chavez. It was Carter's work that turned the corner in the middle east. The Arabs via OPEC were just about ready to make a complete break with America. Carter defused that situation, not by invading some nearby territory, but by putting on his sweater and letting OPEC realize that America would wait out their oil-embargo with some long overdue conservation. It worked and Reagan inherited cheap oil imports. After all, oil is a commodity and it doesn't matter who buys the oil from which particular country. If Carter had been followed by Clinton and Gore instead of Reagan and Bushes we would probably be living in a golden age of peace, prosperity, and a clean environment. You dudes sacrificed all that for what? a ban on a medical prodedure you don't use anyway. What a losing choice. TP
