Your theory seems in conflict with the fact that ~2/3 of the worlds oil is in the Persian Gulf area, Peak Oil and the lack of alternatives to oil and LNG.

I dont think the world will be learning how to do with out safe transit of oil through these straights. The American public would have Tehran radioactive if necessary to remove the threat rather than live life without cheap oil.
