The carbonate system is affected by order of magnitude changes, as there is a buffering capacity in the air, water, soil/sediments, and vegetation. CO2 can escape to other forms as its concentration is increased in one form.

We are talking of only 3-4 times of world energy/commodity use which is less than half an order of magnitude.
