Soooooooooo true!!! If drivers weren't tailgating, chances are there would be NO pileups..... We have the same thing here in Seattle and surrounding areas....People drive way too fast (i.e. 75+ in a 60mph) and follow only a car length or two behind the one in front of them, whip in and out of traffic on both sides like a dervish...and then wonder why there are accidents.
