"(That was all my opinion, no one else's... though, I did not fail to notice that you totally sidestepped saying anything at all about Pakistan, or the advisability of supporting corrupt Authoritarian 'allies' all over the place, which were the topics of the post.... :-)"

Musareff has NEVER our ally. Pakistan was never commited, and isn't today, to helping us chase down OBL. We made book with that guy, again, right after 9/11, based on a bunch of empty promises he made that he was craftily dodged time after time. Now he has absorbed billions of our dollars in aid and shown his (not surprisingly) true colors and we are stuck.

One of the things the Administrations seemed to be doing that I liked was building a better relationship with India, which I hoped could be used to broker more control over Pakistan. But that seems to have slipped away, as well.

So now "our guy", the dictator who avoids a democratic process is the one we will continue to support, all the time claiming we support democratic principles in the Middle East (but maybe not in South Asia?).

Yes, it is a tough nut to crack. And hindsight is always easy...but you and others have pointed out Mushareff's duplicity time and time again for five years....and what exactly do we have for all that money and support?

He played us. Like they all do.
