well, the reason I started a business was to overcome the fact that where I was working was never going to pay for a house (in 2000 to 2007 prices), have kids, and pay for retirement (screw the kids college, they can pay for that themselves). Plus, within 5 years before I started a business I had my car repo'd because I couldn't make the $330 a month payments AND eat AND pay for my $360 a month apartment. Life sucked. Over the last 5 years I've actually worked much much much less than I would have for anyone else and the returns were better. So, was I chasing money? YES. Was it a difficult chase, no, it was much easier than my first 10 years of sucky jobs. Am I happier now? You better believe it, there really isn't anything that I remember liking from my "broke" days. So what I guess I'm saying is that I disagree with your statements :) In a nice way, of course.
