WiMAX has taken time and the likes of Clearwire and Sprint haven't been total winners. Meanwhile Wi-Fi metropolitan areas have been losing ground as the difficulties and lack of demand and one thing and another have reduced the optimistic views of 2 years ago.

Plus the HSDPA/W-CDMA/OFDM/CDMA2000/EV-DO providers are gaining ground very quickly in direct competition.

Not to mention Wi-Fi providers such as Zenbu zenbu.net.nz which are gaining ground.

There are other details such as WiMAX royalties, which I have no idea about, but they must be at least as much as W-CDMA at about 12% since there are so many people with their hands in the till.
