I was going writing to caution elroy about the source of his post when I read your answer which is a far better explanation than i would have come up with. However, I will make a point to you here about history--the same point that i was going to make to elroy. The history doesnt really matter anymore--its the accepted narrative that counts. Both israelis and palestinians have two different versions and in order to have peace some respect needs to be paid to the pal version, regardless of how suspect it is. Just as the jews won the war, the pals have at least fought to a draw on the way the history is interpeted and since we live in a very small world, their narrative needs to be dealt with in the final peace. This is not unique to this issue. There is a history, there is revisionist history and then there is stuff thats just plain made up.
