Social Security spending isn't the same thing as the tax. The spending is enormous. Having an enormous tax doesn't make the spending any less.

The wars are unsupported by a revenue source.... that was the point I was making to your...

Revenue has to come from somewhere, but spending, and thus revenue, doesn't have to be nearly as high as it is now.

If I have a mortgage on a property of $1000 a month and it brings in $1100 a month (plus benefits the renters) then it's not a problem for my budget. If I blow $1000 out of my salary for fireworks (the wars) each month then that is a problem for my budget. Especially if I don't have the money and put it on a credit card.
