Then what if I grant you that adding an extra 1-2 million barrels of oil of supply per day would be good for prices. Wouldn't also you agree that cutting demand by 10-11 million barrels a day would have a MUCH bigger impact on prices?

Except, one is a sure thing can be done nearly overnight (well, the psychological impact would be overnight, flow of oil would happen within predictable time frame). The other (reducing dependence on oil) is just a long term goal.

There is no reason both can't happen simultaneously - drilling in ANWR and cutting dependance on oil.
