When I was a kid in grade school in NH we Pledged every morning and sang one patriotic song every morning. (Live Free or Die, baby.) Sometimes it was the Anthem, sometimes America the Beautiful, sometimes My Country 'Tis of Thee, depending on the choice of the person whose turn it was to lead that day. Everyone took a turn. (I used to know all the verses to all the songs. On my turns I'd sometimes sing one of the unfamiliar verses.)

But I don't recall anyone placing hand over heart for anything but the Pledge. Maybe we were in the wrong according to the Flag Code, but I can believe that Obama believes what he says about this -- that hand over heart is not mandatory for the Anthem. He's put hand over heart for the Anthem at other times; he knows it's customary in many circles.

Here's the vid. If you ask me, the real crime is in the caterwauling! It's staggering. Where's Simon Cowell when you need him?
