Why would that not jibe? Of course, they are profiting big time. The oil industry and all their friends are raking it in hand over fist. In the short term, this benefits them, but every oil industry exec will tell you it's all cyclical. The longer prices stay this high, the more long term demand they are destroying as substitutes become more viable.

In the short term, it's painful to go through these structural changes, but in the long term a world with alternatives to oil will be a much richer and more stable world.

I can't wait for the day that the Middle East is a forgotten desert full of inconsequential people who have no power or money to harm the rest of the world. I pray that I will see that day during my lifetime.
