Pay the gas bill, but skip breakfast. Eat less for lunch so the kids can have a healthy dinner.
There are people in that situation, just as there used to be people in that situation. Its not the norm now, and it isn't more common than it was for previous generations.
Today a typical family has more cars per person, more square footage per person in their house or apartment, they are more likely to own a home, they have more phones per person, are more likely to have refrigerators, computers, dishwashers, and all sorts of other conveniences, and not only do they have more of these things, most of them are better, often much better, than what the typical family had in the past.
Which doesn't mean that a lot of people aren't struggling or that you don't have a lot of people juggling bills trying to figure out how to pay them all, but you have always had a lot of people struggling. Its nothing new and its not something that is getting worse. |
