The issue is spectrum. Verizon and ATT do not have the WiMax licensed spectrum. Sprint got it when it acquired Nextel, and Clearwire bought from several small operators of wireless services.

In addition, Verizon is deadly opposed to WiMax, since it committed to Qualcomm EV-DO high speed data network, and has spent a big chunk of money is deploying it.
