Their goals have not changed, the thing that changed was that instead of attempting to crush their resistance to a "democratically ruled Iraq" we are now busy aiding them in their efforts to resist the rule of the majority in Iraq.

Don't be silly. We are assisting them in fighting Al Qaeda. We are mediating negotiations between Sunnis and Shia - which are happening, far more than gets reported - in order to help midwife a new order that does NOT involve Sunni crushing Shia or Shia crushing Sunni.

So there you have it, their "insurgent" goals have not changed

Their "insurgent" goals used to be fighting with Al Qaeda nd the Baathists to throw out the Americans and restoring Sunni rule over Iraq. Now it's fighting Al Qaeda and the Baathists, working with the Americans and the central government to find a modus vivendi in the new Iraq.

The fight against AQI and the remnant Baathists is essentially over; the US Army announced that AQI has been driven out of Baghdad as well as Al Anbar. War has changed to peace; thousands of civilians dying each month has changed to a few hundred (still too high), fighting against America has changed to cooperating with America and the government, neighborhoods in Baghdad that were shuttered have come back to life, and yet you say nothing has changed.

You are very resistant to the facts on the ground, that's all I can say.
