PS - Regarding your astronomical metaphor, the Sun though relatively small, is in a stable region of luminosity. The red giants like Antares though apparently big, are actually much more tenous and in the dying stages of their existence. To make your metaphor relevant, you need to compare Antares to the US and Rigel to China.
