<Defense industry consolidated and a plethora of technologies -previously classified- were free for civilian uses.>

Oh really ? Name one (of either).

<Imagine the effect of stopping pumping money into Europe to keep troops, bases and materiel there since the Russians were not coming.>

Never happened.

<The Europeans quickly did a "Europe 1992", opened the markets and started thinking about a single currency.>

Internal politics not cold war related - related more trade competition with the US.

<The World Bank no longer had to loan money to buy good behavior.>

You never heard of Serbia ?

<Strategic countries fell apart, S. Africa>

The fall of apartheid was not cold war related and South Africa was never "strategic".

<The Horn of Africa was abandoned.>

Somalia is still in the news and so is Sudan. How can the West abandon something it never possessed ?

<No need for Subic Bay and Clark in the Philippines

So the Fillipinos after 100 years finally kicked the US out. Maybe the US at last accepted that the war with Japan was over and Clark contributed 50% of the venereal disease rate amongst USAF personnel. Guam is getting bigger and better and closer to the new action now, and we own it.

<People soon discovered that they no longer had to pretend to work while governments pretended to pay them...

The Ruskies, maybe, but still the same on Capitol Hill.>

wg

PS - Picking on the Kiwis is no fair as they were never part of the global economy to begin with. Other than great site locations for Lord of the Rings flicks and my woolen ski socks, what has does NZ contributed ? Oops, forgot, it's the big US link to Antarctica, which is coming into a resource war situation, so obviously NZ is a "strategic partner for world freedom".

PS2- No fair editing your previous post while I'm responding to it. Start a new post for your rebuttal. Now everything is out of whack.
